Teaching our Kids

By Ron Updated on June 4th, 2007

I am of the opinion that the US education system needs some major work. Today, in our public school system we push students through with little regard to what their strengths, weaknesses, likes, and dislikes are. I once heard (from someone in the education world) that the US prison system is better funded than our school systems. I don’t have any facts behind this statement but rather am just repeating what someone told me. I actually hope they are wrong! With this said, I think that people like those at TOC for Education are on the right track. This non profit foundation was established in 1995 By Dr. Eli Goldratt. I do wish they would correct the spelling mistake in their first sentence of their homepage! But other than that I am excited to see how foundations like this impact the future of our kids.

I also came across the Lean Education Academic Network which is a group of university educators dedicated to the task of implementing lean education in US higher academia.

I hope all of us familiar with Lean and Six Sigma reach out in our communities sharing with others what we know. This could be your child’s school, your church, or a new restaurant opening up on the corner of Elm and Oak. I dare say the most important continuous improvement opportunities extend beyond what we each do Monday – Friday; 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Until next time, I wish you all the best on your journey towards continuous improvement.
