The Hardest of the 5S’s

By Ron Updated on June 4th, 2007

I recently heard the best explanation of which of the 5 S’s is the toughest to master. Many say how hard sorting all the rubbish is… others say that sustain is without a doubt the hardest. Both of these common responses are dead wrong. The hardest S for many people to master is “starting.” I loved it when I heard it and wanted to share it with you all.

Yeah, I know starting isn’t really one of the 5 or even 6 S’s… but if you don’t start the journey all the cute 5S posters and fancy red tags scattered throughout your company mean zilch. So quit reading all these blogs (until tomorrow of course) and get a team together and 5S an area in your workplace. If you start now I bet you can make a big impact in less than 3 hours. If you take me up on the challenge and send me some before and after pictures I will post them here for all to see!

Until next time, I wish you all the best on your journey towards continuous improvement.
