Six Sigma

Textron Six Sigma

I recently came across this article written about the Six Sigma program at Textron. In the article Bob Zimering, a Textron Master Black Belt, discusses Six Sigma at Textron and responds to some of its critics. When discussing the wise guys over at Qualpro who bashed Six Sigma claiming a company’s stock will plummet once they deploy Six Sigma the article states:

“Textron’s stock price, incidentally, has outpaced the S&P 500 by some 140 percent since introducing Six Sigma, but apparently Textron was not included on Qualpro’s list of ‘large’ companies.”

Hey Qualpro, how you like them apples? Way to go Textron. Keep up the great work!

I’ve posted a couple of times recently (http://tinyurl.com/28j94q) (http://tinyurl.com/2ygs3z) about the rising tide of critics against six sigma. Critics tend to be consultants offering an alternative program or such like. Six sigma DOES make a positive impact! Check out the following:

…the segment has continued to achieve excellent results in its Six Sigma and productivity initiatives. These factors have more than offset decreases in legacy business volumes, slightly lower rolling margins, and increases in freight, paint and certain conversion costs such as labor and natural gas.

…he pushed through reform programs such as the Six Sigma program. As a result, the patent registration process was shortened from 22 months on average in 2002 to ninth months in 2005, making it the world’s fastest patent filing system.
